DIY Clay Knot Home Decor Tutorial

So it has been one of my goals this year to decorate my house more. There are definitely some very empty spot. I’ve realized that I don’t have very many little decorations, at least not intentional ones.

I’ve been seeing cute little shapes and sculptures on top of shelves and books, so I decided to make one. And hey, why not make a video and post about my experience? Well, here it is. I must say, I am very happy with how this turned out. It will definitely be getting worked into my decorations!

The clay that I used was only $10. From what I’ve seen, if you were to try to buy something like this, it would be more like $35. I count that as a win.

If you are looking to make something cute for your house, I would suggest giving this a try!

Here is the clay that I used:

Materials

  • 8 oz Black Clay

Instructions

  1. Cut your block of clay in half.
  2. Roll both pieces of clay into a long tube. Try to make sure the thickness is even and both tubes are the same length. Mine ended up being 16 inches long.
  3. Trim off the ends with a knife.
  4. Bend both tubes into 'U' shapes.
  5. Place the 'U' shapes to face each other, rounded side out.
  6. Open one of the shapes to be wider than the other. Place the other 'U' inside so that the ends are on top of the rounded side of the wider shape.
  7. Carefully weaver the wider 'U' ends through the other 'U's rounded side. These should be going under and out.
  8. Gently move your shapes until both sides are even and the ends of the 'U' shapes are aligned.
  9. When you are happy with the shape, transfer to a baking sheet.
  10. Before you bake, smooth out any finger prints and dents.
  11. Bake according to package instructions.
  12. Done!
  13. Tag me in your finished product! #thetashlifecrafts
